April 8, 2025. Mantua, Ohio. Nora Melton and Parrot Hope Rescue are pleased to announce a successful outcome in the matter of Simon, the Eclectus parrot. As reported in the media, a family member surrendered Nora’s parrot, Simon, to the Cleveland APL without her knowledge and consent. The APL accepted the surrender of Simon in good faith, and in turn transferred ownership of Simon to Parrot Hope Rescue, a non-profit rescue specializing in parrots. Parrot Hope Rescue accepted the surrender of Simon in good faith, and promptly placed him for adoption with a loving family. When the true circumstances of Simon’s surrender came to light, Parrot Hope Rescue worked with the family to unwind the placement.
Nora and Parrot Hope Rescue then worked out an arrangement in which a trusted individual designated by Nora will adopt Simon until such time as Nora has stable housing and can serve Simon’s best interests, at which time legal ownership can be transferred to Nora. In the meantime, Nora can visit Simon regularly.
No one is paying Parrot Hope Rescue any adoption fees in connection with Simon.
Tammi Kraynak, the founder and director of Parrot Hope Rescue said, “This is a difficult and unique story with a happy ending. We are ecstatic that Simon can be reunited with Nora, and we are grateful to the adoptive family who graciously agreed to step aside so this reunion could happen.”
Nora expresses her gratitude to everyone who offered amazing prayers, thoughts and advice. She said, “Parrot Hope Rescue has been incredible in response to my story, going above and beyond to help reunite Simon and me.” She also said she is forever grateful to the family who stepped aside, under challenging circumstances, to make this reunion possible.

Parrot Hope Rescue is a nonprofit organization based in Mantua, Ohio. We are dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of parrots, the plight of which is often overlooked in animal rescue.
Our goal is to alleviate the crisis facing captive parrots who may need surrendered due to many personal reasons, but other times, often end up unwanted, neglected, abused, and abandoned by improper homes.
The beauty and intrigue of pet parrots has encouraged many people to purchase parrots on impulse without knowledge to the long-term considerations of parrot ownership. Many people who get parrots ultimately don't know how to take care of them leading to abandonment. In 2021 we took in over 300 parrots! We give them a temporary home during health and behavioral rehabilitation, and ultimately seek to find them permanent homes.
Our rescue team is dedicated to the ongoing care and education of all birds in captivity. Our events at the sanctuary and abroad allow bird owners the option to bring their birds for socialization and grooming.
We care about the enrichment of all parrots. We offer bird-safe toys, perches, play stands, cages, and nutritious high quality food as well as education for our beloved feathered companions. Whether you adopt from PHR or have had your feathered companion for years, or newly acquired elsewhere, PHR is committed to offering you ongoing advice and support to care for pet parrots in the best way possible.
Parrot Hope is a safe haven for pet birds. Each bird will be cared for by catering to their specific requirements. Outdoor aviaries provide a natural setting during the day for birds to enjoy. Play gyms, toys and daily human interaction promotes a healthy, happy bird. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and healthy diets are served daily.
