Surrender.

We understand that surrendering a bird is a difficult decision. We are committed to providing a compassionate process that prioritizes your bird’s well-being, ensuring a safe and smooth transition into our care. 

Step 1. Contact Us 

Reach out to us via our website contact form, email, or phone. One of our volunteers with be in touch with you to understand more about your bird and the reason for surrender. You are welcome to make an appointment to visit the sanctuary and meet us in person before you make your decision. 

Step 2. Schedule an Appointment

We will confirm a day and time that you may bring your bird to our rescue. In extenuating circumstances where you are unable to safely transport your bird, we may be able to accommodate a request for a pickup. Please discuss this with our volunteer during the initial surrender request. 

Step 3. Complete a Surrender Form

This is the legal document that formalizes the permanent surrender of your bird into our custody. It also helps us understand your bird’s needs, medical history, and any special requirements to ensure consistency of care.

Step 4. Prepare Your Bird

Gather all veterinary records, hatch certificates, pet store purchase receipts, DNA sexing results, or any other identifying information you have on your bird. We will also accept donated cages, toys, etc., in good condition, but this not a requirement. Please ensure your bird is in a secure carrier during the transport.

Step 5. Surrender Appointment 

Bring your bird to our sanctuary at the agreed-upon time. A volunteer will review the surrender form with you, answer any questions, and finalize the process. There is no fee to surrender, but we always appreciate donations of any amount to support our rescue efforts. 

Surrenders are final. Please know we work hard to secure a permanent, loving home for each bird in our program. 

If applicable, please authorize Parrot Hope Rescue and/or our chosen veterinarian to access your bird’s medical history by requesting the release of records from past veterinarians who have treated your bird.

You must sign off on the following before we can accept a bird into our program:

• I am no longer able to keep or am no longer interested in keeping the bird as described.

• I know of no other person who has any claim to this bird.

• I hereby relinquish (in favor of PHR) all rights, title, and interest to and in the bird along with any cage(s), toys, or other items surrendered with the bird. This grant is immediate and absolute.

• It is understood I am not entitled to any portion of fees or any other donation of PHR's.

• It is understood the purpose of this surrender/donation is that PHR provide for the physical and psychological requirements of the bird, and I am not permitted to question or interfere with PHR's care, treatment, or placement of the bird.

• It is understood there will be no visiting unless agreed upon and approved by the Board of Directors of PHR.
